Privacy

This notice explains the information involved in using 789 Australia, searching the directory and contacting its operator. It applies to this directory, not to the independent websites reached through its links.

Browsing and technical information

The directory does not require an account and does not provide a public comment, upload or payment form. Its pages contain no advertising analytics, tracking pixel or behavioural profiling code. It does not ask you to supply a passport, tax file number, health record, payment card or other sensitive information to browse.

When the website is accessed online, your browser sends requests to au.789.work and to 789.work and uk.789.work for shared styles, scripts, fonts, icons and images. Those requests can include your IP address, requested address and query string, request time, browser and device information, and referrer information allowed by your browser. Hosting, delivery and security systems can process this information to provide the page, diagnose faults and protect the service. A static website is not a guarantee that no technical logs exist.

Directory searches and web searches

Site search matches your words against the directory index in your browser. It does not send those words to an external search engine. However, a search term can appear in the search page address. Opening or reloading that address sends the address, including the query string, to the website host; it can also remain in browser history, bookmarks or technical logs. Avoid entering private or sensitive information in a search box or sharing an address that contains it.

If you choose Google, Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo and submit a web search, your words are sent to that provider in the search address. The provider receives its own connection information and handles the request under its own privacy policy. Choosing a search engine does not amount to consent to unrelated uses of your personal information by this directory.

Following an external link or an App Store link opens a service run by a separate operator. That operator may collect information, use cookies or process data outside Australia. Read its privacy notice before using its service. The directory does not embed a live third-party website inside a screenshot.

Preferences stored in your browser

The directory uses local storage to remember your light or dark theme and your selected search engine. It does not use a directory account to synchronise those preferences across devices. The page code does not send the stored preference values to a directory server.

You can remove local preferences using your browser's site-data controls. This restores the defaults on a later visit. Blocking local storage does not prevent ordinary browsing; a preference may simply stop persisting. Local storage is separate from HTTP cookies, and clearing it does not necessarily remove browser history, cached files, a hosting provider's logs or cookies used by another website.

If a page uses session storage to avoid repeating a related-website selection, that information remains in the browser's page session. The directory does not use it to build a profile of your browsing across other websites.

When you contact us

A message can include your name or alias, email address, the affected page, attachments and the information you choose to provide. We use that information to answer the enquiry, consider a correction or rights notice, investigate a complaint and keep an appropriate record of its handling. You may use an alias or make a general enquiry without identifying yourself where that is practical. We may need proportionate evidence of identity or authority before disclosing personal information or acting on someone else's rights.

Provide only information relevant to your request. Please redact unnecessary identity numbers, financial information and information about other people. If necessary to investigate or respond, relevant details may be shared with the service provider involved, a professional adviser or a person authorised to act for you. We do not publish a complainant's contact details merely because they have sent a notice. Information may also be used or disclosed where the law requires or permits it.

Retention and security

We limit personal information used for enquiries and complaints to what is relevant to handling the matter, protecting rights and meeting applicable legal obligations. Records should not be retained indefinitely simply because storage is available. Where information is no longer needed and no legal retention requirement applies, reasonable steps must be taken to delete or de-identify it when required by applicable law.

No website or email service can guarantee complete security. Do not email passwords, identity documents or sensitive records unless a suitable method is arranged for a specific need. A suspected disclosure or misuse of personal information can be reported through the contact details below. Any applicable assessment, notification or remedial duties continue to apply.

Access, correction and privacy complaints

You may contact us to ask what personal information we hold about you, request access or correction, or explain a privacy concern. Identify the relevant interaction and what you want us to do, without including unnecessary sensitive information. A request is considered under the applicable law; this notice does not create an unconditional right to erase records that must lawfully be kept.

We will consider the request or complaint, seek only information reasonably needed to deal with it, and explain the outcome or any lawful reason for refusing a request. If more time or another step is needed, we will explain that. Contacting us does not prevent you from obtaining advice or using a remedy or regulator available under applicable law.

Where the Australian Privacy Act applies and a matter is not resolved, you can seek information about making a complaint from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. The OAIC generally expects you to raise the complaint with the organisation first and allow a reasonable opportunity to respond. Its website explains its jurisdiction and process.

Changes to this notice

The date above identifies this notice. We will update it when the directory's information practices change. An updated notice does not by itself authorise a new purpose, overseas disclosure or other handling that requires an additional legal basis or consent. Statutory rights are not waived by continuing to browse the directory.

An overseas service arrangement is not, by itself, consent to a disclosure. Where Australian privacy law applies, any overseas handling must satisfy its applicable requirements; this notice does not ask you to waive those protections.
